Ramona was born in Kaunas, Lithuania and arrived in Perth, W.A in 1949. In 1956 she received her Advanced Royal Academy of Dancing Certificate in Sydney. 1957 she joined The Elizabethan Theatre Trust Opera Ballet Company, as a ballet soloist on a six month Australian tour. Later was the feature dancer on “Make Ours Music” show Channel 2 TV, Sydney, and “Late Show” and “Sunnyside Up” Channel 7, Melbourne. Later Betty Pounder in Melbourne asked her to join the J.C. Williamson’s musical “Damn Yankees”.
From 1959 she was invited to the Borovansky Ballet Company. Upon the death of Eduardo Borovansky, The Australian Ballet was founded in 1962, under Artistic Director Peggy van Praagh. Ramona became a founding member of The Australian Ballet Company and toured extensively in Australia with their first six month long International World Tour 1965-66, with Margot Fonteyn and Rudolf Nureyev, winning the “Grand Prix” with The Australian Ballet’s production of “Giselle” at the International Festival of Classical Dance in Paris.
Resigning from The Australian Ballet in 1968, due to her father’s illness, Ramona began teaching ballet for the next 20 years at PLC Pymble, St. Catherine’s School Waverley, SCEGGS Redlands Cremorne, North Balgowlah Community Centre, Marilyn Jones & Garth Welch Studio, Manly Vale & Brookvale. In 1981 she received her Associate & Advanced Teacher’s AISTD (Honors) Cecchetti Diploma and was appointed in 1982 to ‘Theatre Board Professional Assessment Scheme’, Australia Council and entered successful Elementary RAD pupils via Joan & Monica Halliday’s Studio in Sydney.
From 1990 she launched her own range of hand printed body wear on lycra, under the name “Bodywear By Ramona”. From 2000 became a director of Lithuanian Club Limited, Bankstown. She involved the community in innovative projects and sought NSW Government grants. Ramona has moved to live on the Central Coast in recent years.
